The saying is too many chefs spoil the pudding the same vice versa is one chef cannot prepare too many things.
This holds good in single founder companies as one person is responsible for taking decisions and running various branches of the company be it sales, finance, marketing, technology all cannot be done by the same person. God cannot give all qualities to just one person if it had been true then we wouldn’t have required anyone to do things.
Single founder’s major problem is not the dedication or commitment but it is just a lack of more ideas, better decisions and better implementation with clarity and more thoughts to ensure the idea is well tuned.
Single person decisions need not be good all the time and having a group of people to put in their thoughts helps in refining the thought process which otherwise would have been just one person thought.
The best example that is seen is companies which are run by individuals never scale up as the thought process of the founder will decide and his decisions are based on his availability at all places of important decision making. As there is no decentralization hence his presence is required across which is not possible.
For e.g milk dairy run by single founder will never scale up as the founder has his own limitations he will never scale it up as scaling up business required employees with which comes cost and marketing so the founder feels its waste of money to hire employees as he will think of the various problems employees come with and hence he decides this is good enough why expand.
As the saying is if you want to go short distance walk alone but if you want to go a long way you need to walk with people.
Also the founders don’t believe that employees come first and then come customers. The founder will think if I hire one salesperson he should bring ten times his salary as revenue which is not possible hence the founder fires saying you didn’t bring what is required, whereas he would never think he himself never brought so much sales being the founder and he expects from the employee.
Building a scalable business need process which is not possible in a single founder company.
